Sep. 25~27, 2009, 2009 Forum on Fishery Science and Technology hosted by Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences (CAFS), organized by South China Sea Fisheries Research Institute (SCSFRI) was held in Guangzhou successfully. Over 300 specialists from more than 40 research and educational institutions from 10 countries in the world discussed the healthy aquaculture and fishery safety & quality.
Vice President of CAFS Mrs. Liu Qin hosted the opening ceremony and President of CAFS Mr. Zhang Xianliang gave a salutatory speech. He stated that a healthy aquaculture instead of a over-exploitation of natural fishery resources, and safe aquatic products are the developmental direction of world fisheries. Deputy Director of Science & Education Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Shi Yanquan, Deputy Director of the Fishery Bureau, Mr. Chen Yide and Vice President of Ocean and Fisheries Bureau, Mr. Chen Liangyao attended the forum. Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Zhang Taolin made an important speech and stressed that it was necessary to improve the competitiveness of fishery technology so as to promote a healthy aquaculture and to realize the change from a big fishery country to a fisheries power for China. Moreover, he emphasized that as an academic exchange platform, Forum on Fishery Science and Technology closely kept up with the current international situation of science and technology of fisheries, analyzed the situations and tasks China’s fisheries were facing, communicated and discussed extensively the hotspots in science and technology as well as research fields, playing an active role in the strengthening international exchanges on science and technology of fisheries, and more importantly, promoting the development of science and technology of fisheries in China.
Since 2003, CAFS has hosted Forum on Fishery Science and Technology for 7 years. Under the support and participation of Chinese specialists on fisheries, it has become the international grand academic conference. The subject of the Forum 2009 was healthy aquaculture and fishery safety & quality, centering on topics of healthy enhancement & aquaculture and fishery engineering, fishery environment and fishery capacity, sustainable use of fishery resources, control and prevention of aquatic animal disease, biological technology for aquatic animals & genetic breeding, quality and safety control of fishery products.
