Researchers from SCSFRI visit Australia and New Zealand for academic exchange on aquaculture equipment and technology

During April 5~14, 2011, a 7-people delegation including Prof. Guo Genxi, Assoc. Prof. Tao Qiyou, Research Associate Huang Xiaohua from SCSFRI visited Australia and New Zealand for an academic exchange on aquaculture equipment and technology. The delegation learned about the technology and developmental trend of tuna aquaculture and salmon culture by small-scale equipment in those two countries, and introduced the situation of aquaculture and net cage culture in China.

Mr. Mark Cody, the head of South Australia Seafood Industry Association, firstly introduced the history, status and development of net cage culture for tuna in Australia, and then discussed on the forms of net cages, distribution, aquaculture environment, access requirements, breeding number, bred species, source of fish species, breeding technology, breeding procedure and equipment. Besides, Mr. Ken Becker, the head of National Institute of Water & Atmosphere (NIWA) in New Zealand, briefly introduced the NIWA and its scientific focus as well as the basic situation of aquaculture in New Zealand. Prof. Guo Genxi from SCSFRI introduced the situation of aquaculture and net cage culture in China.

The three parties engaged in a candid and in-depth exchange of views on further cooperation and communication for a better development of aquaculture equipment and technology, which plays a great role in the R&D of equipment and technology for deep-sea cage in China.
